Writing is an act of faith. . .” – E.B. White

There’s lots of information online about how to write a novel. I know. I’ve gone there. But what about being creative, and giving readers something uniquely your own?

As it turns out, readers have expectations on what they might find when they pick up a book, expectations built up by authors they may be familiar with or adore. It’s helpful to learn from the veterans. If you need hints on handling the ups and downs of your plot, balancing scene and summary or making readers really feel your characters, insights are available.

But don’t be limited by the rules or guidelines you find. Don’t let them muffle your voice, crimp your creativity or stifle your invention. Use them to help you get started or when you find your narrative sagging – when a few proven tricks of the trade can reignite the imagination and drive you forward.
